AMAZING PAPO

Eighty-eight years old
A story to be told,
An old man has come to be
With grandiose status and memory.

Think back to that young man
For his country he did stand,
A farm boy ceased to be
With the army left home to New Guinea.

The Japs his ship almost sunk
He had what it takes - lots of spunk,
First Sergeant Priest leads calisthenics today!
Commander Marvin Griffin would approve I say.

Thirty-three months a long time to be
On remote island far from family,
He fought it out he saw it thru
A hero for the red, white and blue.

Welcome back to peaceful shores
To now Governor Griffin he gave much more,
No fine aide in all the state
To him the governor did dictate.

An investigator's life he did span
Blow the whistle he's your man!
Many a poor soul dragged to jail
Another hernia - what the hell!

Busting stills - stopping crimes
Stole my mama on a dime,
GBI man - detective, too
Midnight special we love you.

With Boots "the Reverend" watching TV
Marcelle the rabbit cute as could be,
Blessed Bandit grabbed his heart,
So sad it was when they did part.

Capt. Priest the story goes on
"Old Goat" to work before crack of dawn,
Lucille, you served him well
Through ice and snow he did prevail.

Drove us to the mountains, drove us to the beach
Picnics, swimming, nothing out of reach,
Papo you'll always be
An intergral part of our family.

OUR PAPO

You were there from the beginning
Right from the very start,
Saturday donuts, summer picnics
Fish fries all before dark.

We've grown up with you
A grandfather to be admired,
Beach trips, Capt. Anderson
Whatever we desired.

First Sergeant to Lieutenant
Captain to Major,
Whatever the case
We knew we had your favor.

Knowing girls need money
Whenever you were there,
A hand in your pocket
Always funds to share.

Smokey Mountain weekends
Lofty fun filled trips,
Watching them make taffy
On the Gatlinburg strip.

Blizzards, snow storms and ice
Forever on the go,
Nix Drive to our rescue
Didn't need a tow.

So Happy Birthday, Papo
A grandpa and a friend
You stuck with us, well stick with you
An love you to the end!
