The Big Question You Are Asking:
If I come to LA, will I see anyone famous?

Well, I can't answer that. But, I CAN document my own experiences. Here, in no particular order, are the celebrities whose paths I have crossed.

 Actual body or eye contact

These are people I met, touched, had conversations with, made eye contact with, or just borrowed money from.
 Ann-Margret, actress/singer/dancer.......Legend!
Yes, I finally met Ann-Margret.
She was at the 15th annual Love Ride for Muscular Dystrophy research, which originated at the Glendale Harley-Davidson dealership. Lucky me, that is only a couple miles from my apartment, so there I was one overcast Saturday morning with my digital camera and 20,000 bikers.
I sort of hung out over by the media area, and I spotted her when she rode up. Don't know how, but I just knew it was her from about 30 or 40 yards away. Once she parked the bike, I caught her before she was wisked away, snapped a personal photo, said a few pleasantries, and that was that.
Pictures are posted in the Ann-Margret section of this site.
 Jennifer Beals, actress
Believe it or not, I was taking a few Salsa dance lessons during Summer 1996. During class the teacher would say, "Ok, pair up!" I stood in the back and fumbled around, and on my left I saw a female, equally partner-less. I turned to her, obviously her new partner by fate. I stuck out my hand, "Hi. I'm Darren."
"Hi. I'm Jennifer."
 Maureen McCormick , actress, singer
Yes, I met Marcia Brady. Of course, this was much later (1995) when she was signing autographs to promote her new country CD, "When You Get A Little Lonely." I stood in line at Virgin records near Hollywood with about 300 other guys my age, but I'm sure she remembers me the most.
 Harry Dean Stanton, actor
Making a quick exit, he opened a side door at the Rainbow club, practically knocking me to the sidewalk.
Teri Nunn, rock singer with Berlin
She sat on my left, shoulders touching, watching some really bad local band at the Troubador.
 Stella Stevens, actress
I had a part-time job delivering flowers in NorthWest L.A. I met Stella at her front door, and she was pleasant.
Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman), comedian
He was one of the many famous people I met while working at Music Plus in Hollywood. I remember talking to him and listening to his Walkman. He didn't know who the group was on his tape, and wanted some more (Spyrogyra) I didn't recognize him because of some week-long stubble he was growing on his face. After 10 minutes my fellow co-workers told me who he was.
O.J. Simpson, infamous football player & defendant
Another Music Plus customer, and this was long before the "murder thing." He was one of my childhood idols, and he walked around the record store like we were all supposed to bow at his feet, in his camel-hair jacket and Isotoners. It really changed my opinion of him, and now I don't have anything kind to say.
 Curtis Armstrong, actor
Curtis played "Booger" in the "Revenge Of The Nerds" movies, and he's been a character in a lot of other things as well (I think, Risky Business, also) He used to come into Music Plus a lot and we would chat about things while he tried to find movies to amuse his nephew.
 Roger Whittaker, popular singer
Again, at Music Plus. I was probably the only one who recognized Roger. It was, pretty much, a youth-oriented music store, and Roger Whittaker isn't really an "under-40's favorite." I love his work, though, and helped him pick out a Stevie Wonder tape for his mother. Then my co-workers told him I wanted his autograph, which was a little embarrasing, but I have it now, just the same.
Davey Johnstone, rock guitarist with Elton John
Music Plus, again. It was particularly exciting to meet Davey, because I was such a huge fan of his work with Elton. I remember him coming in a few times, but I only spoke with him once. He had his son on his shoulders. His guitar work with Elton has always been memorable, and I always thought he was one class act, especially after meeting him.
 Michael J. Fox, actor
At the record store where I worked, we used to have to log cassette sales by hand (Atlantic 90125) and when it got busy on a Saturday, you never really had time to look up.........just write, write, write. It was my turn to log one day, when this very familiar voice starts chatting to me. I knew it was Michael's voice before I looked up, and I think the surprise of it all caused me to be star struck for the first time. Kind of embarrasing, but, that was my excuse. He was very pleasant, bought The Waterboys, and paid with a credit card.
 Jane Krakowski, actress
I met her at a friend's Oscar-viewing party. She is very sweet (and gorgeous) and it's too bad she was dealing with a cold that night.
 Justine Bateman, actress
I kept bumping into her in and out of a few shops on Melrose Avenue one Saturday. My friends from Oklahoma were visiting, and finally they just decided to turn their video camera on, and capture her. She turned away at first, but then, smiled and waved.

Sightings

These are people I have seen live, from any distance.
Magic Johnson, Dennis Rodman, Michael Jordan, Clyde Drexler, Shaquille O'Neal, David Robinson
Obviously, I've been to a few Lakers basketball games
Miles Davis, Gino Vannelli, Keith Emerson, Greg Lake, Carl Palmer, The Yellowjackets, Betty Carter, George Clinton, Sheila E, Dennis Miller, Louie Anderson
Been to a few concerts, too.
 Marlee Matlin, actress
Being as I have been studying American Sign Language, it is no real surprise that I have seen Marlee at the Deaf West theater. (in the audience) But I also spotted her walking through Pasadena one Saturday evening, then turned to face my brother and told him. He looked over at Marlee, she asked him to push the button for the crosswalk (yes, some deaf people speak fairly well) and he walked away with a better story than me, actually.
Jay Leno, comedian & TV host
He was checking out Dodge/Chrysler cars/accessories at a Van Nuys Mopar show. My buddy Dallas and I kept bumping into him at every booth we went to. Finally we went the other direction so Jay wouldn't think we were following him.
 "Weird Al" Yankovic, comic singer
I saw "Weird Al" pulling the slots in Vegas, with a woman, who could have been his mother.
 Albert King, blues musician
I also saw Albert pulling the slots in Vegas.
Andy Summers, musician (guitarist with The Police)
He was shopping in McCabe's guitar shop.
 Karen Black, actress
Karen came into Music Plus one day with some family or friends. When she had enough shopping, she walked (rather obviously) to the front of the long checkout line, plopped on the floor, and sat, cross-legged, at the front of the line, until her party was ready to go. Everyone in the store sort of looked at each other, "O........kay........?"

Heard about it later

This, of course, is what we don't want. This is where my insensitive friends tell me about the people I "just missed." Yeah, right. Thanks for nothin'.
 David Lee Roth, rock singer
I happen to like David Lee Roth. And everybody at Music Plus was sure to tell me, one day, how I'd just missed him.
 Gino Vannelli
One of my true idols. A guy who worked with Gino and co-wrote a song with him, called me one day to see if I could help him with some vocals on some demo tapes. When I got to his place he says, "Oh yeah, Gino was just here about an hour ago." Apparantly he pitches and demos songs towards Gino, as well as Hall & Oates and others. Nevertheless, I didn't meet Gino.

This many people have encountered my celebrity encounters:
