Molly Murphy's Quitting & Confrontation Stories

There was the time when Willie May Fuddmucker, who was a wildly popular waiter in 1982, decided to serenade Bob while he was sitting on table 7 on a busy Saturday night.  Seems it was Willy May’s last night and she decided to go out with a bang.

She stands up on table #31 right in the middle of the dining room and says “Hi, I’m Willie May.  See that no account fella sitting over there with the beady eyes who looks kinda shifty?  Well his name is BawwwB Taayar and he owns this joint.  Well, folks I wanna sing him a little song.  Ya’ll clap your hands and join me.”

Then she starts singing “You dirty ol’ egg-suckin’ dawg.”  The whole dining room is watching and clapping.  Every other employee has scattered to the kitchen, the club, anywhere but the dining room.  Dr Feelgood, Service Director for the night, is hiding up on the podium.  Vance and Bob Carlson are sitting at the table 7 with Bob and boy do they look sick.  Bob has the most painful fake smile I’ve ever seen.

Willie May finishes and the customers all think it is hilarious and are clapping wildly.  Mitch is behind the podium muttering to himself, some of the employees are in the bathroom snickering, Jack hastily calls for a “Bus Stop in 1.” The whole place is in a dither.  Bob makes a hasty retreat 5 minutes later accompanied by the front house manager who is heard reassuring him, “Yes, it’s her last night, Bob.”

It was classic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  WE all had a great laugh about that one.  And we will never forget Willy May, whose real name was Patty Abbott.     - Susie (Hazelton) Kitchen
