title: Waiting

(see the full-size close-up below)

Few things look lonelier than a summer resort in the wintertime, or a tethered sailboat sitting beside its buoy on a foggy day.

My friend Curtis Villamizar of Maine shot this scene on such a day. I know nothing of the circumstances. But in a way this scene is only half lonely because one of the sailboats is missing and a tender left in its place.

This suggests that its owner is aboard the second sailboat where one hopes he is enjoying himself. Except that there is no wind, so maybe he is not so content after all.

Once the fog lifts, and the sea breeze kicks in, everything will liven up. As one sailor sails away, perhaps the other will show up and the waiting for this sailboat will be over.
