I have long resisted having to have anything to do with carrying a cell phone, and to date the effort has been successful. It has been nice to be able to go around town conducting my business without being interrupted at any moment by whoever takes it into their head.

Quite frankly, the day that the number of times-a-day I have to speak with people, suppliers, vendors, and potential attendees regarding details about events to be held here at the Groves becomes so great that I have to get one of the things, will probably become the year that operating expenses will require us to begin charging a rental fee for holding events here. That is, if other forces haven't required us to begin charging fees even earlier.

Skype Name is: ananta_androscoggin
If you send me an "add contact" request, make sure you mention that it is in reference to enquiring about booking a date at the Groves for your Pagan group. Also, and even more important, make sure that you have filled in at least most of your Skype Profile information, because in this age of Internet Predators and Frauds, I never add anybody to my Skype Contacts list whose profile is completely blank. Actually most often I tend to block the senders of such authorization requests.

My status

Skype is a free-download program for VOIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol) service. It is available in versions for Apple's Macintosh OS-X, for Microsoft Windows, and for Linux, as well as the Nokia N800/N810 phones. They seem to be adding other devices which Skype functions can operate from.

To use the voice calling, you will need a headset with both earpiece and microphone. While you can use one with two miniature plugs into your computer's sound card, I tend to feel that a headset with a USB connector works simpler and better. If you have the bucks for a little more expensive unit, one with a "noise-cancelling microphone" will help to reduce any noises in the room you are calling from going out over the line. While there are several headsets for sale via the Skype Store, you can also obtain them from Radio Shack, Staples, Office Max, and other similar businesses.

The basic services are free, and include voice calls and video calls, from one Skype user to any other via the Internet, as well as Skype text Chatting. There are additional services available, which can be obtained for monthly, quarterly, or annual subscription fees.
