Groves of the Greene Man's Denne

Terms of Use

Eligible Groups

Any Pagan, Neopagan, or Paleopagan circle, grove, coven, church, Solitary, or other Pagan spiritual society or organization which does not feel that Greene, Maine (Androscoggin County) is too far away to travel in order to hold their event. However, should any such particular group make itself unwelcome by the behavior of its members (whether the problematic behavior is vandalism, severe litter, drunken rowdyness, unattended fires, or ???), said group will be banned from future use of the facilities.

While whatever group it is that our household becomes a part of may have first-call for booking dates, once a specific date has been reserved, I don't see any need for people to get bumped without notice. However, should the event organizers wish to contact each other about the possibility of working out a date-swap where desired, that negotiation is entirely the responsibiliity of your groups, and I will not make such changes to the schedule of the Groves without having been contacted about it by the designated representative of both groups confirming the agreed-to changes.

Eligible Events

These current lists are only what I have been able to anticipate thus far by brainstorming. The lists should grow to be more complete and more inclusive, as groups and individuals continue to contact us.

Group Events:
 •  Sabbat and Esbat celebrations, both Open Circle and Closed
 •  Workshop Events (1-day or weekend)
 •  Festivals of small to moderate attendance (SEE: parking area description below)
 •  A Class or Workshop to be held over several weeks time
 •  A Week-Long (or Weekend) Retreat which does not require total isolation
 •  Activities or Events of the Spiral Scouts, or DeMolay, Job's Daughters, or Rainbow Girls
 •  Martial Arts classes suitable for outdoors practice
 •  A Mead-Tasting Party
 •  An small-to-medium, organized and plotted, LARP event.
 •  Drumming Circle events

Individual Events:
 •  Weddings or Handfastings
 •  Graduation Celebrations
 •  Anniversary Parties
 •  A Class or Workshop to be held over several weeks time
 •  Dedication Ceremony
 •  Spend a simple weekend in a tent without travelling hundreds of miles (so far mostly requested by Lewiston/Auburn urban Pagans without cars)
 •  Xxxxx

Non-Scheduled Uses:
Any Pagan, Neopagan or Paleopagan person whether a Solitary or a member of a Pagan group (presumably from the local Lewiston/Auburn, Maine area, or Pagan tourists to our state), who finds that they just need to have someplace Pagan-friendly to go where they can sit under a tree, or meditate quietly outdoors, or perform a private ritual in one of the groves, can just come out here on any day when there is no event scheculed to take place, and do so. There will never be a fee for this kind of use, any more than any legitimate church charges you an admission fee to walk in off the street to offer up a prayer or recollect your emotional equilibrium or even just sit and wonder.

Site Rental Fees

Currently (2005--2008) there are no rental fees being charged. We hope to have some of the planned facilities completed before we begin to charge for organized events to rent use of the Groves. If, however, your event is a two-day or longer one, your event organizers will need to rent a Port-A-Potty or two (depending on anticipated attendance) until we can achieve a more permanent solution.

Should your event plan on having a fire in the Fire Circle, or make use of the torches for lighting, donations of firewood and citronella torch fuel are quite appropriate. It should be noted that fires are permitted ONLY in the Fire Pit, and not at any of the tenting sites or other groves (Greene town ordinances).

Donations toward Maintenance and Improvements
of these Groves are gladly accepted.

Non-Eligible, Unwelcome Events

This is our home. We do happen to live here, on-site, year-round. Yes, there are indeed some behaviors which we are unwilling to put up with, and this initial list will undoubtedly grow as we experience the occasional negative event-tenant.

 •  Skyclad Events (the privacy is not all that complete, plus there is a local float-plane which passes directly overhead quite often, and the LifeFlight helicopter does occasionally as well)
 •  Drinking Festivals (with or without brawling)
 •  Organized Brutality (including but not limited to boxing, football, ice hockey, TV wrestling, )
 •  Chautauqua and other mass-brainwashing and indoctrination projects (such as VBS, )
 •  Cock Fighting, Dog Fighting, Bear Baiting and any and all other similar barbaric so-called "entertainments"
 •  Hate-Group Events (including but not limited to : Ku Klux Klan,  Maine Christian Civic League,  any and all flavors of neo-Nazis,  John Birch Society,  Christian Identity,  Army of God,  Promise Keepers,  America's Promise Ministries,  Christian Coalition,  Council for National Policy,  Scientology and all other Pyramid Blackmail Cults and schemes,  Boy Scouts of America, and, and . . . I can't even believe how long the lists of known hate groups there are! I cannot possibly list them all here, and keeping such a list up to date would be even less likely.)

Again, there is not now, nor do we intend there to ever be any fees for individuals to use any one of the groves for individual worship, meditation, contemplation, journeying or ritual   when there is no scheduled event taking place.

Donations toward Maintenance and Improvements
of these Groves are accepted.
