RED TWO

*Red and Guin enjoy rides around the farm.  She and *Red often come up to visit us at the house, "knocking" at the kitchen door to see if there is an apple or carrot available for a hungry horse.   In October of 2007, *Red developed Stringhalt.  I have a series of videos showing his progression from just a few days after development to recovery.  If you are interested they are available for viewing on our YouTube site at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVaQqQp7OhQ  Guin has just begun riding *Red again.

*Red loves to be with us two-leggeds.  Whenever we have work to do out in the pastures, either fencing, or just filling the water vats, *Red is there to assist us.  He might help with the hose, pick-up the tools, or even show us where a fence may be down.  He has even been known to demonstrate for us that the clasps on the paddock gates aren't truly "horse proof"!  *Red is an intelligent, curious fellow and he loves to figure things out.  At the old farm we did have to padlock the door with a combination lock to keep him out of the tack room.  That didn't stop him from mouthing it regularly.  He also dearly loved to turn the lights of the barn on at night.

*Red was born in British Columbia.  He is by *Elko Nevada and out of *Dark Fire.  We are indebted to Shelly White for selling him to us.

*Red is what we call an "extreme".  Some Curlies, for reasons we have not been able to determine yet, shed out their mane and tail when they shed in the spring.  This can make some of them uncomfortable during fly season, but we have not found *Red to have any problems.  It is also believed that Extremes are homozygous for the Curly gene, but that has not been proven, as the Curly gene has not yet been isolated.  Research is on going.  Please feel free to e-mail us for more information or follow the International Curly Horse Organization link on the Favorite Links page as they have more information on curl types and extremes.
