Silken is a well trained mare, who is sensitive enough
to have a good, immediate 'take-off' in her cues, yet quiet and attentive enough
to stop on a breath out. She listens to the partner on her back, and tries
her best to do as asked. She easily does W/T/C, side passes, backs,
bathes, loads, and gives her feet. Silken is happy to be working with
someone, or just hanging out being a best buddy. After spending over two years with Silken, we feel that
her "dream" human would be someone who wants to primarily do arena work, such as
dressage or low-level jumping. She loves to be pampered, preened, and made
to feel the queen of someone's world. In return, she will give you loving
attention and strive to do her best. Silken would do best with an
intermediate rider, but we feel that an advanced beginner who is presently
working with a trainer would do equally as well with her. Pictured at right she is with one of our French
interns, Sophie. After spending 6-7 hours per week working with her,
as well as jumping her over cross-rails and verticals, she found her to be very
forward and excited about jumping, yet tended to rush them due to her
inexperience, so would need more training. Silken is broad-backed and would need a well fitted
saddle. We presently use a treeless saddle for her. If you are interested in her, please feel free to
email, or call us, for more information. Silken is well worth $6500; however, we are very
motivated to sell and her price could be negotiable to the correct home.
Z Silken was born on the farm of Andrea and John Schaap
in Englehart, Ontario, Canada. Her dam was *LS Babe (NACHR 762-D) and she
was sired by *Zorro (ABC 1425). Although both her parents display a curly
coat, Silken did not seem to inherit it; however, she is definitely
hypo-allergenic to me! A beautiful shade of Liver Chestnut, Silken is
kind, sweet, and sensitive. We purchased her in the summer of 2007 with
the intention of having her help get our training stable off the ground.
When those plans changed, she remained, and has grown even more attentive and
demonstrative with us.
