*Walker was born on 8
July 1996 at Quassett Hill Farm in Woodstock, Connecticut, USA, the farm of Tony
and Pat Kowal. * Walker's sire is *Walker's Curly T (ABC-295)(deceased), and dam
is *Katrina LS (ABC-1203) and so has a high degree of Missouri Foxtrotter
breeding.
*Walker, our lead mare, is an excellent mom, and we are planning to have more foals out of her; but now she and Chuck are doing more under saddle work.
*Walker takes her job
as dam and lead mare very seriously. She is ever-vigilant in knowing the safety
of the surroundings and always alerts you to the presence of anything
‘unusual’. She also is very caring for those within her sphere. Once, as I was
stepping down out of the feed room with an armful of hay, I twisted my ankle and
was rather loud about it. *Walker, who was in the front eating hay (always of
great importance!) immediately looked in my direction, and as I sat down on the
mounting block, walked over to me. Chuck, taking my hay, looked at *Walker and
said to her, “Take care of her *Walker.” She placed her nose ever so gently on
my shoulder, and stood there while I rubbed by ankle. All the while, Chuck was
in and out of the feed room, leaving the door almost irresistibly open; yet
there *Walker stood, not moving from her position. As the pain subsided, I
tested my ankle, and found that I could resume my work. I looked at *Walker and
said, “Thank you, I’m okay now.” She then removed her nose and walked back out
to eat more hay. I went back to work.
Her relationship with Chuck is the most important one to her. She will follow him, and listen intently to him. She is not an overly confident horse, but because he believes she can do things, she will; whereas, she will often not do the same thing for anyone else. *Walker listens to him closely, even to the point of doing whatever he has asked another horse to do. For instance, while Chuck rarely raises his voice, a situation arose where he spoke sharply to *Glory. *Walker, who was about to come out of her stall, immediately backed into it and dropped her head in apology. On seeing this, Chuck reassured *Walker that he was not displeased with her, that she had done nothing wrong, and she brought her head back up and proceeded outside.
*Walker has beautiful movement, and a lovely floating trot that she has passed on to both her foals. *Walker does gait, although not consistently; her top line is heavily bred for that. She gives both movement and looks to her foals, as she has (we think) a lovely, sculptured head. She also contributes good mane and tail development.
Here is an example of
*Walker’s winter curls.
