Ghia

Foaled: 1991
Sex: Dark Bay Mare
Registry: SWA 04-91-7022
Ghia is a class 1 Swedish mare that is also accepted by the KWPN.
She has produced six dressage-type foals registered by the KWPN while
at Zephyr Farm. Earlier foals. Ferrari and Gevalia, have won USDF
Region 6 championships from Training through 4th Level.
Ghia is a daughter of the Premium Diploma Elite Swedish
Warmblood mare Geigy
12406. Geigy was one of the first Swedish Warmbloods in the US,
imported by Kristina Paulsen, Ghia's breeder, in 1979. Geigy produced
15 foals, including 2 approved stallions; Daric 9016 and Salvo 9022,
who competed at FEI levels. Her line includes the European TB
improvement sire Presto, who both raced successfully (winning or
placing in 38 of 43 starts) and jumped internationally, and the famous
Utrillo 432 (born in Hanover), sire of nine approved stallions. Utrillo
was #1 on the BLUP jumping index and #8 on the conformation index. He
also produced dressage sires Maraton and Chagall.
Ghia's sire was Elektron 469, a Swedish Warmblood stallion born at
the Flynge State Stud 1968. He was later exported to Germany where he
won the Hamburg Derby, one of the toughest jumping competitions in
Europe, in 1980. Ellin Dixon imported Elektron to the US,
where he went on to place second in the USDF Grand Prix Horse of the
Year rankings in 1983. He was long-listed for the 1984 Olympic Games in
dressage.
These international level wins placed Electron among an elite grouping
of stallions successful at both FEI jumping and dressage.
Entheos 9037 and Pommery 9035 are approved sons of Elektron.
Elektron's full brother, Hercules 504, was also an approved stallion
bred by the Flynge State Stud. He sired 10 approved sons and competed
internationally at FEI level dressage. He was a member of the
Swedish World Cup team in the Toronto (1986) games and an Olympic
competitor in Seoul (1988).
