Idocus is that rare example of a sporthorse that has won renown in both US and European competition. He was born in the Netherlands in 1990 and subsequently imported by Christine McCarthy to the US as a weanling. As a young three year old, he was entered in the 100-Day Stallion Performance Test conducted in 1993 at November Hill Farm, Keswick, Virginia. At the end, Idocus was awarded the Grand Championship, outclassing 17 other stallions. One year later, he went on to become the Grand Champion of the Dressage at Devon show.
In 1994, Idocus was presented for approval at the NA/WPN keuring. The jury gave him a total score of 99AA, the highest marks ever granted in the North American keurings. It is important to note that the component scores reveal excellence in both dressage and jumping abilities: Walk - 9. Trot - 8.5, Canter 9.5, Jumping - 9, Character 9.
Idocus received his early dressage training at and exhibition with
Lendon Gray. After several successful show seasons, Idocus was exported
back to the Netherlands for international competition. He was presented
at the KWPN Hengstenkeuring in 2001 and accepted for a short three week
stallion performance test at Ermelo. The KWPN jury reviewed he results
and declared him an 'Approved' breeding stallion in the KWPN registry.
While in the Netherlands, he was trained by Marlies van Baalen. Idocus
distinguished himself in Europe with numerous wins and placings in
dressage competitions at GP, PSG, and GP Kur levels. His european
career was capped by his selection as a member of the 2004 Olympic
Games squad representing the Netherlands.
In 2005, Idocus was returned to the US and continues to compete in high level dressage events under the experienced rider, Courtney King. He is also a very popular Dutch Warmblood sire among US breeders.
