Our 3.5 acre compound is surrounded by cat proof fencing and encloses our home, yard, goldfish stocked ponds, gardens and woods. This environment provides even the most agile Savannahs and servals a protected habitat safe from cars, coyotes and cougars while allowing them the freedom to run, climb trees and catch small game as well as participate with us in home and yard activities. They have access to the house at all times via a dog door into “the cat room,” designed specifically as a playroom with hidey holes, ramps and areal walkways adjoining a loft with mattress and cuddly bedding for those cozy afternoon naps. The cats can be confined to the "cat room" if necessary, but usually have free access to the rest of the house, yard and woods..

This type of compound is more work than small outdoor enclosers, but the rewards are endless as we are continuously entertained by the cats' antics and adventures indoors and out. Each cat is first a member of our family then a valuable participant in the ongoing development of the Savannah breed.

Having lived with wildcats for many years (Servals, Bobcats, Jungle Cat, Canadian Lynx) we realized that as much as we love cats we just could not go back to life with a "normal" domestic. Despite the extra work and unique challenges of inviting a wild cat into our family, with enough time, space and money, the rewards are well worth it. Unfortunately, many states have/are passing laws to prevent the ownership of these wonderful animals. For anyone living in such a state or having limited time and space, the Savannah offers a wonderful opportunity to experience firsthand the unique personality and exotic beauty of the Serval, legally and responsibly. We at Northwest Savannahs are thrilled to be able to share our love of the Serval through their legacy, the Savannah.

Now, those of you who have never experienced a Serval hug or head butt can have the same experience with a Savannah, a breed that includes the best traits of the Serval along with the more reliable temperament of the domestic, the best of two worlds.

Rosie - F1 Savannah Cat
Galina - F1 Savannah Cat

Galina is a 53% F1 Savannah. We received her as a kitten from AkilahCat Savannah cattery.

We selected AkilahCat Savannah because of their exceptional cats. Gulnaz, the owner, spares no expense in socializing and genetics to bring us top quality F1 Savannah kittens. We were blown away with her breeding program and are still continuously amazed at Galina's looks, energy level and how well socialized she is. She is an absolute sweetheart and strongly bonded to all members of our family.

Thank you Gulnaz for your years of great work!

Aila - F2 Savannah Cat

Aila is a rare 34% F2B Savannah who comes to us from F1Hybrids. She is always "on the go" and, because she instigates new activities, all of the cats follow her so they may join the next big adventure. She is fearless, sweet, loving, funny, adventurous and intelligent. Aila is a wonderful example of an F2 Savannah.

Unfortunately, our vet discovered an ovarian cyst that needed to be removed which has made her sterile. She will not be producing kittens.

Milo - African Serval Milo - African Serval

Milo is 100% African Serval and has a sweet, loving temperament. He was born October 9, 2012 and is larger than we anticipated. Milo follows Aila around like a lost puppy and enjoys the game of "chase" with his big brother Kindi.

Milo has not sired any Savannahs yet, but we remain hopeful.

We chose the name Olufunmilayo from the African Yoruba language. It means "Joyful Spirit."

And Milo's big brother Kindi...
